Welcome to the Tacoma Public Library's
2015 Summer Reading Headquarters!

Tacoma area schools will soon be out for summer vacation. If you're already dreading the time when your kids start complaining that they're bored, remember that the Tacoma Public Library-has more great events than ever (101 to be specific)  this summer to keep them reading and laughing.  Our libraries are filled with story times, crafts, magic shows, music, wild adventures, theater, knights and even a vaudeville show! Kids and teens needing to sharpen up their reading skills during the summer months will have an opportunity to accomplish that goal and have fun at the same time.  It's summer reading time in Tacoma!

Summer reading combats "Summer Slide", a phenomenon that affects children who stop reading over the summer. "Summer Slide" means that students actually lose some of the reading skills they gained during the school year and start the new school year behind where they finished the last. Active reading during the summer months prevents summer slide.

The Tacoma Public Library has three reading clubs this summer:

 Every Hero Has a Story

Every Hero Has A Story
This summer reading club is for kides ages birth through entering 5th Grade. Read and review ten books to be entered into a drawing for one of two free Tabet. You are entered into the drawing everytime you report on an additional 10 books.  Everyone who completes the program will receive a tote bag, superhero bookmark and bubbles, two free games of bowling at Narrows Plaza Bowl, coupon for a free Auntie Anne's Pretzel and a ticket for two to the Summer Reading Celebration on Saturday, August 15th at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.

 Unmask

Unmask!
Are you a SuperReader? This is the summer reading challenge for students entering 6th grade through 12th grades). Read and report on 5 books (or four books and a library program) and you are a winner! For every additional 5 books you read and report on you will be entered again into the Grand Prize Drawing for a chance to win a new tablet.

Everyone who completes the program will receive a tote bag, free comic books, two free games of bowling at Narrows Plaza Bowl, and a ticket for two to the Summer Reading Celebration on Saturday, August 15th at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.

 Escape the Ordinary

Escape the Ordinary
We have a club just for adults! Why should kids have all the fun? Read and review 5 books by 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 8th to be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing for a chance to win a one of 8 amazing gift baskets. Check out the gift basket themes at your local library.

For every additional 5 books you read and review, you will receive another entry into the Grand Prize Drawing. Receive one free game of bowling at Narrows Plaza Bowl each time you report. (Limited to 1 per day)
